LovelyUs Product Review: Fujifilm Instax Mini 8

Erica and I want to bring you reviews, every so often, of products that we use.  The first review is for the Fujifilm Instax Mini 8.  I bought the Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 for our "photo booth".  For parties we wanted to be able to set up a backdrop, with props and be able to give guests instant photos to take home with them.  This camera works pretty well for that purpose.

The Instax Mini 8 gives you a credit card sized photo instantly.  The camera comes in several fun colors and there are other Instax that will give you a little bit larger of a photo.  If you purchase the Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 you will get the camera, camera wrist strap, and instructions.  You must purchase the film and 2 AA batteries separately.  I've just bought the basic film with a white frame so far, but it also comes in different colors and patterns.  The camera was about $60 and if you buy the film in bulk you can get a good deal.

Before you take a photo you have to adjust the power of the flash.  That's simple enough, all you have to do is turn the dial around the lens.  There are five options for the flash strength.  The instructions tell you to set the dial to the setting higher than the lighting you're in.  So, if you're indoors, you should set the dial to Hi-key, if you're outside and it's cloudy you should set it to the little house.  You can see the photos I took indoors and the little house looks bright enough, but you could use the Hi-key if you want a little more
"exposure".  Another tip is to stand about two feet away from the subject.  That way the flash reaches the subject and it's in focus.

You can see I took the same photo five different times to show the different strengths of the flash.  Hi-key is the brightest and the bright sun is the darkest.

One negative to the camera is that the view finder is a little small and hard to see out of, so it takes some getting used to.

Overall, I'm so glad I bought this camera.  It's so much fun.  I hardly ever print photos anymore and need to work on that.  But with this camera, I have a photo right away.  It's great to have a variety of cameras.  I would recommend this for anyone who loves to take photos.
