Holiday Beauty Gift Guide - Him

19 December 2015

When it comes to making your gift lists for the season, most of us don't usually put down "beauty" products for the men in our lives.  But I think it's something that we shouldn't look passed.  Most guys have a simple routine when it comes to getting ready but I feel like once they are opened up to the world of "beauty" products made specifically for them the standard routine may change. Here some of my recommendations for "beauty" products you can put on your lists!

1. Kiehl's Facial Fuel Energizing Face Wash - $9.00 to $58.00
If you ask men what they use to wash their face, most men will probably say "whatever is in the shower". But just like our skin, men's skin can become dull and beaten by the elements.  Kiehl's Facial Fuel Energizing Face Wash is made specifically for men and help with the signs that the elements can show on the face. This face wash also prepares the skin for shaving and helps with the irration that can occur from it.

2. Kiehl's Facial Fuel Moisturizer - $25.00
And to go with the Fuel Energizing Face Wash, I recommend Kiehl's Facial Fuel Moisturizer.  This moisturizer is in the same catergory as the face wash so its supposed to help with effects of the elements.  I definitely think all men so moisture their face, especially during the cold months.  Men's skin can get dry patches like us so having a moisturizer like this can help.

3. Jack Black Beard Oil - $24.00
Winter is beard season for a lot of men and nowadays more and more men are going for the larger, bushier but tailored beards. And with this beards can come dry and itchy skin. So if you have a man in your life who has a beard, I highly recommend beard oil.  Beard oil is essentially for conditioning the beard hair and hydrating the skin underneath. It's not a step most men take when taming their beards but a couple of times using beard oil, they will probably thank you.

I selected this beard oil by Jack Black as it is rated five stars on Sephora's website.  If you Google "beard oil" there are other brands out there and websites that offer reviews of different types.

4. The Art of Shaving Full Size Kit with Pure Shaving Brush - $120.00
I feel like most men don't dare use a razor when it comes to shaving but I really love this gift for a man and I'm tempted to buy it for my husband.  I love the vintage feel that the Art of Shaving has to their product and I love the idea of an "old time" routine.  Plus, I feel like all men need to experience a razor shave at least once in their life.

5. Bumble and Bumble Sumotech - $29.00
Hair is the one part of "beauty" that men actually take some time to do. With that, I decided to add the Bumble and Bumble Sumotech to the guide. Sumotech is described as a compound that offers the effect of wax, paste and cream.  I like the idea of it not being a complete wax mixture as hair waxes can give that spikey look which isn't always attractive.  Bumble and Bumble does hair products right so I'm sure this worth the money if a guy in your life is looking for a hair product.

Well, I hope these recommendations can help with some of your holiday shopping.  And don't be afraid to get the men in your life some "beauty" products. You may be surprised by how much they end up loving them and how their normal routine can change!

Holiday Beauty Gift Guide - Her

18 December 2015

Gift giving season is here so I thought it would be a great time to do a "Holiday Beauty Gift Guide". Whether you are looking for items to put on your wish list or you need a last minute gift idea for a women in your life, here are some of my recommendations. Some of the items I have tried and some are items that I have come across and think can make great gifts for anybody whether you love beauty items or not! \

1. Sigma Most Wanted Brush Set - $73.00
For me, Sigma brushes are a must in any beauty collection and this brush set is a great starter kit for those who are new to the brand.  The set includes fan favorites like their F80 Flat Kabuki, E40 Tapered Blending, E25 Blending, E30 Pencil, and F35 Tapered Highlighter.  Sigma brushes are well worth the money as they last through all the make-up applications and cleanings.  I have some of their brushes for a couple of years now and they really don't have signs of aging.

2. Sigma Spa Express Brush Cleaning Glove - $25.00
Cleaning make-up brushes can be a pain but Sigma has made this task easier with their cleaning gloves and mats.  They have a variety to choose from but I think their Express Cleaning Glove is the best. It's small so it's not as bulky as the full glove but you still get the different textures to clean your brushes.  I feel like this would make brush cleaning easier than what it can be and I actually put this on my own Christmas list this year!

3. Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette - $46.00
The Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette has to be one of the most versatile and complete palettes released this year.  With the colors being matte and neutrals, there are so many options and there's no wasted colors.  This palette has quickly become my "go-to" palette and I think it's a great palette for someone who is completely confident with make-up or someone who is just getting started.

4. Laura Mercier La Petite Souffles Body Creme Collection - $60.00
The winter can be a brutal time for the skin so this collection can make a great gift during the holidays.  The Souffle Body Cremes (love the name!) by Laura Mercier are whipped body lotions that give you complete hydration. The La Petite collection offers six travel jars of the Souffle Body Cremes in the scents Fresh Fig, Ambre Vanilla, Creme de Pistache, Almond Coconut Milk, Creme Brulee, and Tarte au Citron.  The price of this is alittle on the high size but it's nice that you can try six 2 oz jars for the price of a 12 oz jar.

I have yet to try the Souffle Body Cremes but they are definitely on my "need to try" list for beauty. From the reviews I have read, they seem like they are worth the money which doesn't surprised me because Laura Mercier is a great brand.

5. Olivia Palermo x Ciaté London The Fashion Edit Nail Set - $30.00
Ciate and Olivia Palermo created this four piece nail set with colors inspired by the runway.  You get a bright red (Hutch), burgundy (Napa Valley), blue (Brooklyn), and a dusty pink (Sundays). I love little nail sets like this that you can get a places like Sephora and Ulta. It really gives you a chance to try different brands without committing to a full size bottle.

I hope this gift guide will help if you have any last minute gifts to buy for the women in your life.  Stay tuned my Holiday Gift Guide for Him, beauty edition, will be up tomorrow!

White Christmas

15 December 2015

This is what I think Bing Crosby had in mind when he sang "White Christmas." Well maybe not exactly!  So, ever since I painted my dining room walls Blackberry I've pictured a white Christmas tree in here. I had a very specific theme in mind for my tree: silver/mercury glass and white woodland animals.

Since Erica is a professionally trained tree trimmer, I asked her to help and with a trip to Joann's, Ikea, and Walmart, we made it happen and all under $100!  She also gifted me those beautiful mecury glass ornaments.  I think they are my favorite!

I'm so happy how it turned out, just as I pictured it. It's a little sparse with decorations, but it will be something I can add a little to each year.

Stay tuned for a little video filmed the day we decorated the tree!

Sephora VIB Sale Haul/Mini Reviews

25 November 2015

Acouple of weeks ago Sephora had their annual VIB sale so being a VIB Rouge member I had to take advantage of the 20% off. With the sale, I knew I wanted to try a new eyeshadow palette and some skin care products. I ended up purchasing the Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette, Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara, Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray, and Sephora Favorites Beauty Sleep.

When I got the e-mail about the VIB sale I knew right away I wanted to get a new eyeshadow palette. There was acouple different palettes I was looking at but ultimately went with the Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette. I've heard great things about this palette so I had high hopes for it and so far it has been living up to my expectations.  The colors are your basic neutrals so there is no disappointment there and they are matte which I always prefer.  The eyeshadow formula is buttery and soft which makes using them easy but because of that there can be fall out especially when you are putting your brush in the shadow.  That really is my only negative about this palette. It's a high recommend in my book.

Along with the Kat Von D palette I also got the Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara.  I picked this up because I'm in the hunt for a new mascara and was intrigued by what Stila said the mascara can do.  After trying it every day since I got it, I will say that I like the wand shape and it definitely defines your lashes. Unfortunately, by mid-day I am already wiping the "raccoon eye" away so I won't be purchasing this again.

One of the great things about the Sephora VIB Sale is they end up releasing limited edition items like this Sephora Favorite box set, Beauty Sleep.  This set includes four decent size samples of Korres Wild Rose + Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial, Origins High Potency Night-A-Mins Mineral Rich Renewal Creme, Ole Henriksen Invigorating Night Treatment, and Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil.  I love the Sephora Favorite box sets and this one is no exception. I haven't tried many of these products and I am currently looking for night treatments for my skin so I was excited to see they released this box set.

Currently, I'm using the Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil. It's this crazy blue colored oil that has a unique scent (I believe its chamomile). It's supposed to reduce pore size, improve appearance of damaged skin and help fight wrinkles. So far I like what I see and I can definitely see a difference in the morning from the nights I do use it and the nights I don't.  My only negative about this product is the price. It's $105.00 which I can't quite bring myself to spend on one product but I understand way it's that price.

The Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray was just a re-purchase for me. I love this setting spray. It's the best in my opinion.  Sephora had a limited edition get set of two for $39.00 (if I remember right). I highly regretting not getting the two regular sizes instead of just a travel size. But c'est la vie.

Behind the Scenes - Dia de Los Muertos Bride

12 November 2015

Here's a little behind the scenes video from our dia de los muertos bride photoshoot!

Dia De Los Muertos Bride

27 October 2015

With just a few days left before Halloween, we wanted to share one of Erica's costumes for this year!

She used several makeup items; half from her own everyday makeup, and a few Halloween bits to create a half glam, half undead bride!  She's actually wearing her wedding dress!  Then we took advantage of this fabulous look and snapped a few pics.  Doesn't she look gorgeous?!

Stay tuned for a little behind-the-scenes video we also shot on this day.
And Happy Halloween everybody!

DIY : Skull Decor

24 October 2015

Halloween is one of the best holidays to decorate for! You can get so creative and crafty - from fun and festive to creepy and scary. And there's so much inspiration for Halloween from movies to cultural traditions.

Stephanie wanted to create different skulls - sugar skulls, a skull vase, and a Goonie inspired skull. So on our last LovelyUs Saturday together we trekked over to Jo Ann Fabrics, Hobby Lobby, and Christmas Tree Shop. We picked up some craft skulls, paints, flowers and embellishments.

The actual crafting night was the best! We brought all of our supplies to our mom's house and got crafting.  We played Hocus Pocus, (probably the best Halloween movie of all time), while we each decorated a skull. Steph and I worked on the smaller skulls and pearl skull, while Mom worked on the turquoise skull, and skull vase.

In the end, we had a great night of crafting and the skulls came out better than we expected.

Stephanie used the skulls around her home to decorate for Halloween.  The skull vase with the red eyes looks amazing in her black dining room.  She's going for a scary/sophisticated vibe.

How do you decorate your home for Halloween, do you try to scare the neighborhood?

#essielove

09 September 2015

After going through our past nail polish posts, we have noticed a trend... essie. Both of us have quite a few colors from the lacquer brand and if you asked us our top polishes most likely you will get an essie color. Because of this, we thought it would be fun to show our essie appreciation and add to the #essielove that is on social media like Instagram.

Essie is a top contender in the nail polish game and it really isn't a stranger to those who love polishes. You can purchase the brand at almost any store that sells beauty products which is always a plus.  And even though it's accessible and priced right you still feel like you're getting high-end because of the beautiful and extensive color range as well as the quality of the polish itself. We can't help but love essie.

Some of our favorite essie polishes are featured below. Steph loves old favorites like Turquoise & Caicos while Erica is quickly loving new releases like Penny Talk.

Summer Blushed and Bronzed

04 September 2015

When it came to make up this summer, I was all about blushes and bronzers. Whether I put on a full face or just quick simple makeup, blush and bronzer were the two items that I always used.

My go to blushes for the summer have been the new Too Faced Love Flush blush in I Will Always Love You and the Balm's Frat Boy and Cabana Boy.  All three of these blushes really feel like summer for me. The colors are bright in the pan but so subtle when applied to the cheeks.

If the Balm does anything perfect it's blushes. Cabana Boy and Frat Boy have been my favorite blushes for quite some time now. They are pigmented so one swipe is really all you need. Both colors work on different skin tones so you can wear them when you are tan or your tan is faded.

The Too-Faced blush is a new release. It's one of their 16 hour formulas in the color I Will Always Love You. One of the main reasons I wanted to feature it in my summer blushes is the color. Never in my life would I pick an orange toned blush but after swatching this in Sephora I knew I had to have it. But that is all I'm saying for now as I will have a full review within the next few days so check back for that! On to bronzers!

For summer, it's all about bronzing instead of scuplting or contouring. I think summer makeup should be natural and bronzers are perfect for creating that look. Three of my favorites have been Benefit's Hoola, Too Faced Endless Summer 16 Hour Long Wear Bronzer, and Rimmel's Natural Bronzer in Sun Bronze.

All three of these bronzers are perfect for adding a summer glow to your face. For applying, I generally take a blush brush, like the Real Technique blush brush, and use that to apply my bronzer to the areas of my face where I would get tan. I use a blush brush instead of a contouring brush as I don't really want to sculpt my face but just give myself the summer glow. I would apply the bronzer to the hollows of my cheeks and the top of my forehead with a light hand.

Summer is still here in New England so I'll be keeping these pieces in my makeup routine for a few more weeks.
